Treating Cataracts

Posted on March 6, 2010.
Treating CataractsDoes anyone know anything about the treatment of cataracts in dogs with salt?

I heard that a friend of the former treatment of cataracts in dogs is to put salt in his eyes for a period of three weeks. Does anyone know if this is true?

thats absolutely horrible ... what would you ever think it's a good idea?

I do not think ... I think it's cruelty to animals ... how would you feel you have salt in your eyes as a "treatment"? Please check with your veterinarian.

Salt in the eyes? Never heard of it and it looks painful! Please consult your veterinarian before doing something like that!

No. You will likely cause irreversible damage if you try this.

Do you dare to do, is cruel, painful for the dog, and will not help, cataracts are behind the eyes, not before. The only cure is through surgery which is expensive.

Cataracts can not be helped with salt. It is an old wives tale and you irritate the dog's eyes. Think about it: you feel good about someone putting salt or salt water in your eyes?

whhhhhaaaaat??? take the dog to a veterinarian,

This is not true. He will cry your eyes if it is a problem of not having enough of it can bring tears to the eyes look better for a while, but not without pain and discomfort.

I've never heard of it, but think about it. Did you ever get the salt in your eye? It burns. Sounds to me like a dangerous, harmful thing to do. And I do not see how it could help cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye.

Consult a veterinarian. Mink your dog is too precious to risk on something that you do not know is a sure thing.

Do not do it! Surgery is the only cure for it I discuss your options with your veterinarian and stay away from the salt. :) BTW, cataracts may be inherited, or they could be a symptom of diabetes or another illness, it is important to understand that. Good luck:)

This is not just "salt" is "Epsom salts" and is a world of difference between the two.

A doctor of naturopathy gave this advice about eating natural foods in the process. This will help reduce the vitreous fluid in better condition and the change of the specific condition of the lens of the eye. The following treatment of the eye may help patients recover from their cataract.

It offers the following treatments:

Lavage some salt and some burned Ephsom table salt.
Take a tablespoon of table salt and heat it in a brown flame.
Then mix with two tablespoons of salt Ephsom.
dissolve in seven ounces of rain water clean and clear.
Put it in the eye with a dropper.

Personally, I would not do that to my dog without veterinary approval and recommendation. Sounds a bit too "snake oil" for my tastes.

And I test it on myself before putting it in the eyes of my dogs.

crulety animals! Tell your friend to put some onion slices his eyes

There are many, many, old wives tales and home remedies for the treatment of animals, while others are valid for the vast majority are not and can cause serious problems for the health of your animal. It's like trying to "sweat" the fever, bleeding, or try to heal the mentally ill by drilling holes in the head. Would you treat a man with cataracts salt? No, you see your doctor and use prescription drugs, if any. Please conslult a digital voltmeter of confidence!

You gotta be true! NEVER NEVER put salt in a doing.
