Ovarian Ultrasound

Each month, I get the worst cramps ever. They hurt so bad I can not wait to fix anything. Nothing has helped. My mother took me to the doctor and she put me on birth control. But I must go back and have an ultrasound to check for ovarian cysts. What can I expect? Is the mark of my mother to leave the room? Will I do something in my vagina? Please help: P

Do not panic. An ultrasound is external. I have done for similar reasons. I can guide you through the procedure step by step from my own experience.

Regarding your mother, if you need support you can request that your mother stays with you, I'm sure the technician has absolutely no problem with that. If you prefer, you can also ask her to leave the room.

When you arrive they will probably ask you to change into a gown and lay on the examining table. The technician will put lubricant on the basin, above your pubic area. Then, they use ultrasound to scan your ovaries. Think of the device as a barcode scanner. There could be some pressure for them to get a clear look at the ovaries, but certainly not something painful.

For me, the most uncomfortable the procedure was was the feeling of lubricating jelly. If you do not feel pain, just inform the technician. Overall, do not worry, they will not look at your vagina at all.

Also make sure to drink plenty of water before your appointment and do not urinate, which allows a clearer picture. This information must be provided by the office where you do the exam.

im getting the same thing done tomorrow! they wont touch your vagina. Your mother may be in the room if you want them to run something on your abdomen and that's all. you may have to undress, but still wear ur bra and underwear, im not sure. I did b4 its just been a while me 4.

I had the same procedure, but it depends if they want an ultrasound "vaginal" or a regular ... I must have vaginas, and all they do is to use the camera in the shape of the tube, and go into the vagina and UR watch and take some pictures ... it does not hurt, and if you want ur mom she can stay there ... but I hope u must be regular, but they can see inside the ovaries ur better with vaginal ultrasound, I ended up having cysts, so I'm glad they took this road .. good luck and hope u get well

Wear loose pants that can be drawn down in front below your stomach and you should not have to undress. It is completely up to you if your mom still with you or not. They may ask him to leave, but let them know that you prefer to have it with you. They will put these things on you freeze your stomach (it might be a little cold), then they will use the ultrasound machine (I'm sure you've seen that used in television or film).

All this was two weeks ago, and both times I had, they used a probe "ultrasound.
