Ovarian Cancer Detection

Posted on March 4, 2010.
Ovarian Cancer DetectionWhat is the best early detection of ovarian cancer?

I have a family history of ovarian cancer. I wonder how to be proactive and take all the signs of the disease early if it ever happens. Would regular (perhaps every nine months) transvaginal ultrasound be the best way? Is this how they catch ovarian cancer early, before symptoms begin (in other words, visually)? Or is there another test that is better?

Since ovarian cancer is spreading rapidly, and less than one year from the beginning if it is fatal, I want to take action on a regular basis (and not just once a year). The CA125 test is really useful for the treatment of ovarian cancer in progress, and not for detection. I am going for genetic testing as well. I'm not ready to give up my ovaries again!

The signs of ovarian cancer may include a range of symptoms, including a "swelling" feeling. It may also feel like there pressure in your bladder area. Urinating frequently may also be a sign, and cramps in your region of the bladder.
