Home remedy for oral thrush in babies? My baby is 1 month and yesterday started to develop thrush anyone know any home remedies safe for baby.
Are you breastfeeding?
The yeast feeds on sugar, so try to eliminate sugar from your diet. Eat unsweetened (sugarfee without artificial sweeteners) yogurt (make sure it says "live active cultures" on this subject).
Eat garlic or take garlic tablets.
Take acidophilus.
Add olive oil to your diet. Try putting a little on your nipple, it has antifungal properties.
Avoid white flour and rice, beans, blanched and simple carbohydrates.
Genetian Violet works against thrush:
1) About 10 ml (two teaspoons) of gentian violet is more than enough for a complete treatment.
2) Many mothers prefer doing the treatment just before bedtime so they can keep their nipples exposed and not worry about staining their clothing. The baby should be stripped of his bed, and the mother should be uncovered to the waist. Gentian violet is messy.
3) Dip a clean cotton swab (Q-tip) into the gentian violet.
4) Put the purple end of the swab into the baby's mouth and to suck the buffer for a few seconds. The gentian violet usually spreads around the mouth quickly. If not, paint the inside of the mouth to cover as many inside the cheeks and tongue as possible.
5) Put the baby to the breast. In this way, both the baby's mouth and the nipple are treated.
6) If at the end of the food, you have a baby with a purple mouth, and two purple nipples, there's nothing left to do. If only one nipple is purple, paint the other with the cotton swab and the gentian violet. In this way, the treatment is completed in one go.
7) Repeat the treatment each day for three or four days, until one week
It may help to rinse the mouth with a dilute solution of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide in an older child or adult. You can take a 1% gentian violet on a Q-tip, applying it in the affected areas of the baby's mouth. Reapply when the mouth is purple, and continue until the thrush is gone. You can give relief from mixing equal parts water and hydrogen peroxide, mixed with some baking soda, and swab the affected areas. It can be very painful to have thrush, but then do not be surprised if the baby needs treatment with a fungicide of some kind, prescribed by a pediatrician.
I am breastfeeding my son and I regret to say, but everything I read about breastfeeding said the thrush can be cured by prescription because the growth of yeast.
Gentian violet. You can buy it on the counter at any pharmacy. You must be sure to put on your nipples and in his mouth (if you're breastfeeding). Wear old clothes, it stains like crazy.
Medical treatment is generally nystatin, which also stains, but not as badly.
