Hylan Injection

Posted on March 23, 2010.
Hylan InjectionIs hylan GF 20 (Synvisc) safe and effective for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis?

My patient is on insulin for diabetes and left bundle branch block. His right knee is swollen and painful and xray showed severe osteoarthritis. Will assist injection Synvisc?

Synvisc is strong enough, but not always effective. Sometimes, even with the extra cortisone, it does not help. Total knee arthroplasty is a very real possibility. There are a series of three injections and most insurance companies make you wait six months between the series. Then you boosters cortisone. If Synvisc has not helped by the second series, in all honesty, it probably will not.
