Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and type II diabetes

PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) is a hormonal imbalance that occurs in women, and can often be mistaken for something else. Women who have high testosterone and high levels of circulating insulin. Without a diagnosis, women infertile PCOS risk, weight gain and persistent, if left untreated for a long period of time, diabetes type II.

It is estimated that over 50% of women with PCOS contract untreated diabetes type II before their fortieth birthday. Women with PCOS have an incidence of five to seven times higher for heart attack than women of childbearing age without the condition. PCOS poses a significant danger to women and should be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible.

What causes PCOS? In other words, PCOS represents multiple cysts on the ovaries. The cysts are from follicles that should be the production of oocytes (eggs) for reproduction. Due to a higher level of male hormones, these follicles do not mature, and instead remain as cysts in the ovaries. Since the follicles do not mature, the ovaries taken out under progesterone and are less likely to have their rules. With less estrogen and progesterone, testosterone secretions from a woman rose and the results of PCOS.

These cysts are sources of testosterone, which impede a woman's level of natural estrogens and cause other problems. These problems may include excessive facial hair, obesity and a decrease in the number of periods. Although all women secrete a certain level of male hormones, PCOS affected by levels of women are much higher, which stimulates other symptoms. Other symptoms may include:

Acne
high cholesterol
Hypertension
Thinning hair or male-pattern baldness

In more severe cases, patches of brown spots on elbows, chest, knees and other points on the body (note: these are also symptoms of Type II diabetes

In reviewing the symptoms, it is clear that many women with PCOS have an increased risk of heart and other circulatory diseases. Of all the symptoms, high insulin levels and persistent may be the most harmful to the health of a woman. This symptom causes constriction of blood vessels and can lead to diabetes mellitus in some cases, if left untreated.

How can we treat PCOS? There is no perfect treatment. If every woman should be treated differently. Women who suffer severe symptoms should be given steroids to reduce the acute problems. In the longer term, many women receive one or more of the following:

Birth control drugs, to regulate their periods and combat the increased production of male hormones

Anti-diabetes drugs, including Avastin and glucophage, to reduce the effects of higher levels of insulin being circulated in the blood.

fertility drugs, both to stimulate the normal production of female hormones and, in the case of infertility, pregnancy boost. The two drugs most often prescribed Clomid and are mettformin if Clomid is not enough.

In the case of production reduced pituitary, gonadotropins are administered.

Anti-androgens, such as Minoxidil (topical) are administered to counteract the influence of male hormones on hair loss. Their side effect is to reduce the overall effect of male hormones on the female body.

If these drugs are not sufficient, a woman with PCOS may undergo surgery to reduce the number of cysts in the ovaries. By "drilling cyst, the surgeon can reduce the amount of male hormones and insulin secreted by the ovaries and improve the relative performance of estrogen and progesterone. Although all surgery is potentially dangerous (especially with obese patients), it is a relatively noninvasive procedure that can be performed using laparoscopic tools.
