Genital Warts In Women

Posted on February 13, 2010.
Genital Warts In WomenThe new vaccine against HPV help reduce the chances of women getting genital warts also?

I know that the new vaccine prevents cancer of the cervix in women. Genital warts is a form of HPV-associated cervical cancer.

Yes. The vaccine targets strains 6, 11, 16 and 18 of human papillomavirus. Strain 6 and 11 cause genital warts, while 16 and 18 cause cancer of the cervix.

I was only 17 when I had cancer of the cervix and later developed genital warts, both against HPV. I was treated at once, and fortunately they did not come back! I'm so glad they come out with this vaccine. I know it does not help me since I already have the virus, but we hope it will prevent another woman of developing cancer of the cervix uteri. It kills about 300,000 women per year!

No, there are several versions of the vaccine, some strains 8, 11, 16 and 18 (only against types 16 and 18 cause cancer of the cervix, 8 and 11 cause warts), but other brands vaccine only 16-18 years old themselves, and does not protect against genital warts.

The vaccine against HPV can be used on people who have never had sex.
I looked in the vaccine myself when they started testing.
