The best way to lose weight Experts say that if you have the choice between a diet and exercise to lose weight, you must choose the exercise. A new study suggests it is better to hit the gym to reduce the amount you eat.
And if the goal is the same - more power than you use stocks - to work has more advantages.
People who exercise tend to be stronger, have more muscle mass and increased aerobic capacity. Dieters tend to lose muscle mass and strength.
"If, at worst, and someone wants to know if they should diet or exercise to lose weight, I would say the exercise, provided they are willing to put in the extra time and effort and not offset the gains they make by eating more, "said lead author Edward Weiss study, a researcher at Saint Louis University Doisy College of Health Sciences.
Weiss and colleagues studied 34 people between the ages of 50 and 60 who were in the high end of normal weight or overweight. Among participants, 18 dieted while 16 exercised.
The diet reduced their calorie intake by 16 percent the first three months and 20 percent for the next nine months. The group of the year was to burn more calories by 16 percent the first three months and 20 percent of the next nine months.
Both groups lost about 9-10 percent of their body weight. But the loss of muscle mass diet, while the exercisers did not.
"It is important that schemes should not be seen as a bad thing, because it offers huge benefits compared to the reduction of disease risk and is effective for weight loss," said Weiss. "Furthermore, based on studies in rodents, there is a real possibility that calorie restriction provides benefits that can be achieved through exercise-induced weight loss. "
