Can having sex the night before cause abnormal Pap smear? I had my Pap test results and they came back abnormal. I have not had a consultation with the RN, so I'm not sure of the exact problem, but I had sex (with condoms) of less than 24 hours before testing. Could this have caused the abnormal result? Other than that HPV can cause abnormal results?
Sexual intercourse within 48-72 hours before a pap can cause abnormal results due to the impact of trauma (bruises) of the cervix.
In addition, you should not shower for 72 hours of a soup, or porridge within 7 days after the end of your period.
Other causes of abnormal PAP could be an asymptomatic (without symptoms) yeast infection, or irritation or infection of the cervix called cervicitis, or other infection.
DO follow up with your doctor / NP for a repeat pap. It might be nothing, or it could be a real anomaly. And be sure to avoid sex and douching just before.
Yes, yes, yes.
Stop worrying. A year ago I went for a pap and as you said, the results came back abnormal. I had a discussion with the RN and she said that if you had sex before the night it is very likely that the source of the problem.
She suggested I come back six months later (instead of a year) so that we can do another Pap smear and make sure everything was okay. Indeed, he came back normal and everything was fine.
Naturally, there is a possibility that HPV or other STDs can cause this result, but more likely than not that you have nothing to fear. Sometimes they come back abnormal no real reason. In addition, if you had your period recently which could be the cause.
Stop worrying and talking to the doctor, but from my experience and the experiences of my friends, I know you're OK.
Good luck!
As far as I know, having sex before a pap law should have no effect. Personally, I have had normal pap results after sex, but I also had abnormal results in not having sex before law. It was caused by HPV. Other causes of abnormal nipple that I know are inflammation and probably almost any type of STD. Good luck though rarely, but sometimes because the test could be a false alarm.
im not really sure if having sex the day before could cause abnormal reults. but I wouldnt think it would be. Pap test for tissue and vaginal secretions. I doubt that would affect this. using a condom does not prevent all STDs. so you might have contracted an STD such as chlymedia or gonnorhea. Both are pretty positive im cureable. chlymedia is cured with a single dose of medicine and seven days of abstinence from having to be completey removed from the body. Good luck! I really hope that everything goes ok for you! :]
Having sex within 48 hours of the appointment could live with the results of the PAP.
Do you let the doctor when you got the PAP you had sex the night before?
Yes, my doctor told me that having sex before the night he could come back abnormal. So just make another and have no sex.
ummm an STD!
