Vision after cataract

Cataracts, a loss of vision due to clouding of the lens of the eye, are often regarded as a curse of advancing years. In fact the problem and corrective surgery can affect people of all ages. There are several options to restore the focus after the disappearance of the natural lens.

Clouding of the cornea can cause similar symptoms. The treatment is much more recent than that of cataract, because it involves the grafting of corneal tissue, usually taken from a deceased donor.

Several centuries before the existence of the photo sensitive plates and film, "Lens Pin Hole" has been used to make tracings of subjects. "Camera Obscura" which is Latin for "veiled room, led to its name cameras. The smallest hole, the best developed, but at the cost of dim light. Lenses finally allowed to focus more and more companies large holes of light.

The work has been done on multi focal / IOL adaptation, but there is much less room to work inside the eye in the shows.

Whether the correction lens is inside the eye or the cornea, the outcome for most patients for cataract is good to focus limited distances. However varifocal spectacles can be used to complement the range of concentration.

Now, consider other factors. The base line are those heavy glasses uncomfortable for patients of all ages, but especially troublesome for children and youth.

The IOL, such as contact lenses, can be modified when policy changes, as is normal aging. If the IOL implant is part of the treatment, a lot of adjustment over time can be achieved with contact lenses or glasses.
The implant is essentially no care after installation.

Contact lenses can be very difficult to clean and install for the very young, very old, or physically impaired persons of different ages. Fortunately various extended wear contacts are now available. Because neovascularization is a real concern to the contact wear long, even with the new materials more permeable, it is convenient for caregivers to be at least one day, if not more than 24 hours for their care recipients.

Cataract or corneal disorder unimportant? Certainly not. But the modern treatment options allow almost complete restoration of what most of us would call normal vision. In fact, cataract surgery is now the most common form of surgery in the United States, with several million cases a year.
