Cartrophen injections for joints - Are there Side Effects My nearly 14 years, Cairn is Cartrophen (2nd injection to come this week). I have not read about side effects and the vet did not mention. I just wondered if there
My collie had them and the effect was incredible.
She could walk miles across the fields after a few months of injection. That last 2 years ago and has never needed a reminder, as it has never been lame or ill to rise from .
She dislocated hip and a year later, she showed signs of pain.
The vet did not mention any side effects.
Even if she has cancer of the lymph nodes now.
I do not think there is a link to the injections as I had two other dogs in the past with the same form of cancer.
It took two years after the cartrophen quality and I would not swap for the world.
As with any medicine, there will always be possible side effects.
If your veterinarian is using this product, he / she feels well enough that there will be significant change and that the risk of side effects is low enough to try it.
I heard good reviews of this injection. Have you also thought glucosomine and chondroitin tabs for your dog. It would just be another argument for promoting joint health.
At age 14, aritritis is almost inevitable that I commend you for thinking of your dog and want him / her to be as painless as possible.

ADD:
I forgot to ask ... Have you noticed a change yet?
CARTROPHEN VET ® (pentosan polysulfate) is a new treatment for osteoarthritis, which provides pain relief by acting on the pathology within the joint that causes pain. It protects and supports the recovery of articular cartilage is damaged by the degenerative process. CARTROPHEN VET has therefore been classified as disease-modifying anti-arthritic drugs and represents a new and rational approach to medical treatment of osteoarthritis in dogs.
I would say that since the drug is also used to alievate pain of arthritis that would not induce pain while your dog is being processed.
Examples of good news for many of us
Good luck
