Is it abnormal to have ovarian cysts if you are on birth control? I am eighteen and have been on birth control for almost four years, but I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts now. Is this normal? I thought that birth control is (benign) ovarian cysts almost impossible due to lack of ovulation.
Does this mean the cysts are something worse?
this is not true. pill prevents ovulation, and to this end, may help reduce the cysts. However, they do not often enough to prevent the formation of cysts or aggravation.
I thought they would increase the chances that the ovaries are seen as so inactive?
hmmm not sure
As others have said, the pills may prevent ovarian cysts, but not always. Because the causes of an ovarian cyst may be large, it is often preferable to adopt a more hollistic treatment and prevention (I put a link below for information on the causes).
Please do not panic that you might have something more serious - ovarian cysts are very common, even among those who take birth control pills.
Take a look a some of the other things that could have caused this accident to further reduce the risk to get them.
Good luck and I hope you get it sorted.
